Oh yes you read it right. By the time you finish a daily soap on TV, you may take a Pune-Mumbai run. Maharashtra government has announced its plans to build hyperloop between Mumbai and Pune. A feasibility report for hyperloop will be submitted by end of this year. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has already identified a 15km test run track from Balewadi to Gahunje and the work will likely to commence in 2019. PMRDA will work closely with Virgin Hyperloop officials.
The decision follows chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and PMRDA commissioner Kiran Gitte’s visit to Virgin Hyperloop 500m test track at Nevada in Los Angeles on Sunday. The CM and Gitte met the company’s CEO Rob Lloyd. A pre-feasibility study was completed earlier this year. Interestingly 70% of materials required for hyperloop may be sourced within the state. That will make the project cost effective.
Hyperloop is a high speed mode of futuristic safe transportation through a steel tube in near-vacuum using a linear electric motor. It will not only reduce the congestion on the expressway and cut down the travel time but also trim down the emission of harmful greenhouse gases.
Apart from Maharsthra Andhrapradesh has also announced its plans for hyperloop system from Vijaywada to Amravati.
