As per suspects, the Japanese bike manufacturer Kawasaki is working on a new project i.e. Z400
Kawasaki is working on the project of a naked version of its entry level sports bike Ninja 400. The company has been known for offering a good range of naked sports bikes ranging from 125cc to a litre class. Visordown, a UK based motorcycle website recommends that the company will showcase the naked sports bike Z400 later this year along with its 2019 range.
The Japanese manufacturer filed new emission documents with California Air Resources Board (CARB) which gives a solid proof of the company’s future plans. The documents states that there are 2 bikes powered by the same 400cc motor as on Ninja. One of them is labelled ER400DK and the other one is the Ninja 400. As per the company, the ER stands for the naked sports bikes, also the company code of Z300 was ER300BG.
Although not too many details are revealed about the upcoming motorcycle, we expect it to be mechanically similar to its faired sibling Ninja 400. The power comes from a 399cc parallel twin motor that churns out 49 horses of power and 38 Newtons of torque. Alike ninja, Z400 might also get conventional telescopic suspension up front and a pre-load adjustable Mono-shock unit at the rear end. We also expect Z400 to be slightly lighter than the Ninja 400, thanks to lesser fairing. Talking about the styling, the Z400 might feature bodywork inspired from its siblings Z650 and Z900, which marks an aggressive presence on the street.
Till date, there is no clarity about the launch of bike in India. In the cost sensitive Indian bike market, Kawasaki has to deliberate the pricing of the bike just like Ninja 300 . The Z400 directly rivals Duke 390 which is currently the market leader in sub-500cc naked bike category. Other rivals includes recently launched BMW G 310R and the Italian kid, Benelli TNT 300i.
We expect the company to showcase the bike either at INTERMOT in October or at EICMA in November this year. We’d suggest you to start saving from now, if you are also a naked sports bike fan, someone just like me.
