Electric vehicles are next big thing and foreseeable mode of transport across the globe. India largest car manufacturer has confirmed to start testing 50 EV prototype in India from October 2019. Maruti Suzuki has already announced plans for a lithium ion battery manufacturing unit in India from 2020.
Osamu Suzuki, Chairman, Suzuki Motor Corporation has talked in detail about EV program at MOVE Summit organised by NITI Aayog. The electric vehicle program will be run together with Toyota Motor Corporation with which Maruti Suzuki has a signed a vehicle sharing contract.
Maruti Suzuki will be using 2018 Wagon R as a test car for its electric vehicle program in India and most likely the same is going to be the first electric car to be launched in India. The current Wagon R is scheduled to be replaced with a new generation Wagon R in 2019 with 1 Litre petrol K10 engine. Suzuki has also announced that next EV car will be Swift being very popular in India.
