The all new Mini Countryman is set out for sales priced at Rs 34.9 lakh, ex-India, for the entry-level Cooper S. The visually bolder S JCW will come at a premium of Rs 6.5 lakh over the S, while the Cooper SD costs Rs 37.4 lakh.

This newly launched beauty also happens to be the roomiest Mini yet and is the most practical Mini you could have by Indian-standards. On the inside, the car gets bigger, but thankfully manages to keep its characteristic proportions intact with a slightly grown up and mature look.

The Mini Countryman is available with a 2-litre petrol engine and a 2-litre diesel one. The petrol version will make 189Bhp and 280Nm, which allows for a 0-100kph time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 225kph. On the contrary, the Diesel engine makes 188Bhp and 400Nm. However, it is marginally slower and hits a ton in 7.7 seconds and tops out at 220kph. Both these engines come mated to an 8-speed gearbox. The Countryman will be available in three variants where the Cooper SD gets the diesel motor while the Cooper S and the Cooper S JCW gets power from petrol engines.

From the outside, the new Countryman also looks fresh compared to the old one. The face and the stance left untouched and resembles as the traditional mini looks, but the grill headlamps, tail lamps and bumpers are new.

In size this countryman is now 200mm longer, and 30mm wider freeing up a lot more space inside the cabin. It also gets driving modes like the other Minis, cruise control, run-flat tyres and a touchscreen infotainment system.

In additional features the company provides with glass roof, an automatic tailgate, Harman Kardon speakers and a second row that can do a 40:20:40 split to increase its 450 litres of boot space to more than 1300 litres.

With more than fifty per cent of this second-generation ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’ now being localised, the Countryman has been “competitively” priced at Rs 34.9 lakh, ex-India, for the entry-level Cooper S. The visually bolder S JCW will come at a premium of Rs 6.5 lakh over the S, while the Cooper SD costs Rs 37.4 lakh.
